Harvey Walpert

Harvey Walpert has worked for shipbuilding companies for 52 years upon graduation from Columbia University with a Masters in Business. He was at Electric Boat for 22 years and another 22 years at Halter Marine and 10 years at Bender Shipbuilding. He was the Program Manager for the overhaul and installation of the long life core on the SSN 585 Skipjack at Electric boat and served in the Cost Engineering, Production Control, Marketing and R and D departments.

As Halter’s Senior Vice President for Administration he was responsible for Human Relations, Engineering and Estimating. He also served as the Senior VP for Corporate Affairs until he left Halter in 2000. He was Bender’s Senior Advisor for Military Affairs.

Walpert is past Chairman of the following organizations: Southeastern Shipyard Association (SESA), American Waterways Shipyard Conference (AWSC), Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) and was a member of the American Waterways Conference (AWO) Board of Directors. Harvey is also past President of the Greater New Orleans Council and the Southern District of the Navy League and for several years was the shipbuilding expert on the Navy League’s Maritime Policy Committee. Harvey instrumental in re-forming the National Shipbuilding Research Project in 1998 and was its second Chairman and continued as Bender’s representative until 2009.

He was made Director Emeritus of the Shipbuilders Council in 2006 and was awarded the Secretary of Navy’s Meritorious Service award for outstanding service to the Navy. A native of the port city of Baltimore, Harvey is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and holds an MS in Business from Columbia University.
