Ronald J. Thomason is President and CEO of Infrastructure Security Solutions LLC (ISS). ISS specializes in providing security consulting services to the transportation, supply chain, and critical infrastructure communities worldwide.
Mr. Thomason is internationally recognized as an expert in maritime, transportation infrastructure, and supply chain security. He has over 25 years of experience in government and corporate intelligence and security operations, where he developed and delivered security training programs focused on the protection of US and foreign personnel, facilities, and operations from a variety of threats. He has conducted security threat and vulnerability assessments of more than 100 ports in North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia; and has developed government-accepted security plans for their associated infrastructure and operations.
Mr. Thomason assisted in the creation of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 and has advised the US Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in the development of their maritime security curricula for federal law enforcement officers. He also helped develop a MARAD-approved curriculum for training and certification of maritime industry security professionals, and a DHS-approved curriculum for rail transit security personnel. Mr. Thomason has served as a principal instructor at the Maritime Security Institute, and as an adjunct instructor of maritime security and counterterrorism at FLETC, and the US Coast Guard’s Training Center. He has also developed and delivered security training, drills, and exercise programs to government, transportation, and supply chain industry members worldwide to ensure their compliance with regulatory requirements and industry’ best practices’.
Prior to starting ISS Mr. Thomason served as Assistant Vice President of Security for TranSystems, an internationally-recognized transportation system architectural and engineering firm. Mr. Thomason served as Vice President of SeaSecure, the maritime operations division of Mobius Security Group, which was acquired by TranSystems. While at Mobius Mr. Thomason was responsible for planning and coordinating activities for that company’s international business sector clients. Before joining Mobius, Mr. Thomason served as Security Manager for Renaissance Cruise Line and as Acting Director of Security for P&O Princess Cruises, two of the world’s largest passenger cruise industry carriers. In those positions he was responsible for developing and implementing security policies and procedures, as well as security training programs, for each company’s shore side and shipboard security staff.
Mr. Thomason is a Governor of the Maritime Security Council and currently serves that organization as its Vice President of Strategic Programs. He also serves as a maritime industry representative to the International Police Organization (INTERPOL), and the US State Department’s Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation. He recently participated, as a security industry representative, in the first Civil Society working group conducted in conjunction with a member nation’s review of a United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR 1540).
Mr. Thomason helped plan and manage the first International maritime industry Conference on Maritime Counterterrorism; and helped develop and coordinate the Maritime Awareness Instructional ‘Boot Camp’ for Congressional staffers on international commerce and maritime security.
