Lawrence Henesey, Ph.D.
Lawrence, who is based in Sweden, joined Maritime Transport & Logistics Advisors as European Union Short Sea Shipping Liaison.
Lawrence received his B.A. degree from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, in 1993. and the M.S. Cum Laude from the Institute of Transportation and Maritime Management (ITMMA) at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, in 1998. Additionally, he is a recipient of the Libertas Humanitas award 1999.
Since 2000, he has been concentrating his PhD. doctoral research on intermodal integration and material handling at the Department of Software Engineering and Computer Science, Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlshamn, Sweden. Main research focused on enhancing container terminals with the use of artificial intelligence, which has led to several scientific publications.
Actively participated or involved with several short sea shipping and intermodal projects sponsored by the EU and Sweden.
From 1994 to 1998, he was employed with Evergreen America Corporation in Norfolk, Va., US. In 1999 he joined Seatrade Reefer Chartering in Antwerp, Belgium Followed by employment with Deutsche Post, Frankfurt, Germany and since 2000 he has been working as a University Adjunct at the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlshamn Sweden.
Main interests are in developing tools and methods for improving performance in intermodal short sea shipping transportation systems. Other interests include: simulation of shipping operations; integrate material handling and supply chain activities; modeling of port stakeholder relations; and developing of expert systems for short sea shipping. Membership in the following professional societies: ACM (Association. of Computing Machinery), SCS (Society of Computer Simulation), and SAIS (Swedish Artificial Intelligence Society).
Additionally, he is listed in the international Whos Who 2002 and 2003.
